Jon Cihlar

Jon has over 10 years of teaching Computer Science at the high school and college level after working as a full stack web developer and managing a small team of developers for a number of years.  He has been at Monarch High School since 2022 and enjoys working with students to build a strong foundation in problem solving and programming so that they can be successful in the future.

Jon is credentialed as a concurrent enrollment instructor through Front Range Community College and is a current cohort member of the National Cybersecurity Teaching Academy.  He was recognized with Impact on Education’s Impact Award in 2024 for making an extraordinary impact on student learning.

Jon has been involved with College Board’s Career Kickstart Cybersecurity program as a teacher since the first year the course was taught in 2023 – 2024. He facilitated at the 2024 Summer Institute, training teachers on how to implement the Career Kickstart philosophy and now serves as a contract Professional Learning Lead, coaching other facilitators. He has also worked on the assessment item writing team, preparing questions for the end of course assessment.

Jon holds a Masters degree in Linguistics (with a Computational Linguistics focus) from the University of Chicago. He also holds Bachelors degrees in Technical Communication and Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
