Monarch High School’s AP Computer Science A (the second year course in the program) got out today to hug some trees as part of their Project Based Learning module on carbon sequestration. They used measuring tapes and clinometers to measure tree diameters and height to create a data file of trees at Monarch. Using that data, they developed a software program in Java to calculate the amount of carbon the trees in Monarch’s courtyard trap or sequester. That data informs decision makers about the impact those trees have on the environment and their value.
